Mastermind Group Articles:
Forming an Informal Mastermind Alliance -- David K Drews

The President of the U.S. has a cabinet and every CEO has a board…you
need a mastermind alliance.  One important thing a mastermind group will
do is cover the blind spots of each member, and to gain unbiased,
independent and objective advice.
Just find up to seven people who share your goals or have goals similar to
yours and recruit them.  Find members who have the skills, experience,
education and/or contacts that you would find helpful.  (Of course, you help
your members too.)  Look up all the people you have ever known who could
help.  Have your membership think of other good potential members too.
Get unanimous approval from your membership before you actually invite
people to your forum.
After you have found members, go to Yahoo, MSN or MySpace and form a
CLOSED Yahoo or MSN or MySpace group.  Invite your members to the
group and begin work.  Keeping records should be extremely easy using
any of these group sites.  Also, you don’t have to meet at the same time at
a physical location or run up phone bills.
Now, what do you do?  Decide on your group’s definite major purpose and
construct a plan to accomplish it.  Give everyone in your group a job.
Remember, success is usually cooked in a crock pot, not a microwave.
Don’t expect success overnight.  Just keep striving towards your common
purpose and help each other in a spirit of unity and harmony.
Other things you can do are: review each other’s business plans, resumes,
web sites, e-books, share information, brainstorm, send traffic to each
others web sites and keep each other motivated. You can put class notes or
any relevant data in the files section of the Yahoo or MSN group.  The
possibilities are unlimited.

How to Accelerate Your Success with a Mastermind Group

We all know that two heads are better than one when it comes
to solving a problem or creating a result. So imagine having
a permanent group of five or six people who meet every week
for the purpose of problem solving, brainstorming,
networking, and encouraging and motivating each other!

This process is called masterminding and is one of the most
effective success tools you can adopt! It is a powerful way
to support your dreams and bring unlimited resources to your
business and personal life.

Participating in a mastermind group has been critical to me.
I can't imagine achieving all I have without one, and it
certainly made my goals happen much faster.

A Process for Accelerating Your Growth

The basic philosophy of a mastermind group is that more can
be achieved in less time when people work together.
Sometimes called a "dream team", your mastermind group is
made up of two or more individuals who voluntarily come
together on a regular basis - weekly, biweekly, or monthly -
to share ideas, thoughts, information, feedback and
resources.

Your group can be composed of people from your own industry
or profession or people from all walks of life. You can
focus on business, increasing each other's income, building
a business, raising better kids, or solving a social
problem.

Within your mastermind group, you benefit from the other
members who empower you and draw out your full talents,
resources and abilities. They trigger, stimulate, and
motivate you to become all you are capable of being.

Creating Your Dream Team

The key is to choose people who are already where you'd like
to be in your life - or who are at least a level above you.
In forming your mastermind group, start by carefully
enrolling another friendly, on-purpose, like-minded
individual. Start by meeting together and then adding other
selected, unanimously agreed-upon individuals who will work
in total harmony for the good of each other and for the good
of the group.

1. Your Dream Team should consist of 4-8 people. Most people
find that 6 is the ideal number.

2. Meet weekly, if possible, for an hour to an hour and a
half. This meeting must be held sacred as a life-enhancing
priority. The meetings should be upbeat, enriching,
encouraging and beneficial to each individual and the
group's purposes. I always start our meetings with a prayer
or an invocation. You could also start with an inspiring
story.

3. Each member must agree to play all out -- to openly share
ideas, support, contacts, information, feedback, and
anything else that will help advance the individual and
group goals.

4. Start by having each member share something positive and
good that happened since the last meeting.

5. Next, have each member share an opportunity or problem
they have experienced since the last meeting and ask for
whatever support they would like on it. Appoint a time-
keeper to make sure that everyone gets the same amount of
time. This is important if you want your group to last.
Everyone must get value at each meeting.

6. End by sharing appreciations and acknowledgements.

You'll find one of the real values of a mastermind group is
the accountability factor - other members checking up on you
to make sure you meet your stated commitments. It's one way
to ensure you'll accomplish a lot more!

What is a Mastermind Alliance?

A mastermind group is a collection of people from the same or different educational,
financial, and cultural backgrounds who meet periodically to discuss issues that they
face in the world. These issues can be anything the group would like to discuss. Many
mastermind groups have been founded for specific reasons that the members have
agreed are issues that interest them and need to be addressed. Mastermind groups
have been started in many different fields including business, retail, real estate,
education, and others. A group is usually eight to ten people who meet regularly at a
specified meeting place.

The mastermind group was founded on the theory that two or more minds working
toward a solution to an issue is better than one mind working alone. The group
members feel that as individuals their judgment is not always accurate when trying to
work through an issue at work or in business because they are bringing in too many
other issues into the mix. A mastermind group can help a person stay focused on one
issue. Everyone will work to solving the issue or at least offer advice on what to do next.

It is up to the group to decide how often they want to meet and where. They will also
decide who will bring an issue to the table and who will start the discussion. It is a
good idea to designate a moderator each time the group meets so that the group stays
focused. As in any group setting, individuals will find a few people that they are closer
to than others. This may pose a problem for some. Being able to trust everyone in the
group is important and should be established early on so that people do not branch off
into smaller groups within the group and begin to take sides when tough issues come
up.

This is the unfortunate outcome of many groups. But by discussing these pitfalls early
on, hopefully they will not become problems for the group later on. A mastermind group
can be a powerful force in a person’s life. Having others to talk candidly with about
important matters is a great relief to many people.
